Effect of electrode porosity on the charge transfer in vanadium redox flow battery

Abstract Vanadium redox flow battery (VRB) has attracted enormous attention as a large-scale energy storage system owing to its long life, stable capacity and high safety. The electrode porosity plays crucial role in the performance of VRB. This work reports effect on electrocatalytic activity charge transfer VRB using spent tea derived porous carbon material. microstructure is systematically modified specific surface area enhanced from ~10 ~2085 m2 g?1, with microporosity up ~1930 m2 g?1. electrochemical electrodes comprehensively investigated by cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy galvanostatic charge/discharge studies. degree improves process exhibits lower resistance higher for vanadium reactions. Moreover, static cell demonstrates superior energy, voltage coulombic efficiencies than pristine graphite at all tested current densities. results suggest that tailored substantially influences migration significantly performance.
